Volleyball: CCC Sweeps Saturday's Matches

The Central Community College volleyball team won both matches to end their Siouxland Tournament on Saturday. A brief recap of each match is below. CCC is 6-1 and will return to action on September 6 at 1:30 PM against Rock Valley College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Match 1 vs. Lake Region (N.D.) State College

The Raiders defeated the Royals, 3-0. The final scores were 25-21, 25-12 and 26-24. The Raiders got on the Royals early, winning the first two sets comfortably. The third set saw a much closer match play out, with CCC still closing the game in one extra volley with a 26-24 final set to sweep the match. Libbie Ball accounted for 21 assists with Lauryn Scott leading team in kills with 12. Liv Swanson was right behind her with 10 kills and Maleigha Johnson tallied 17 digs.

"Great to finish the weekend with a couple of sweeps," said Mary Young, CCC head coach. "We didn't play as clean as I would have liked, but we still were able to get the 3-0 sweep, which I thought was key. "

Match 2 vs. Ellsworth Community College

The Raiders beat Ellsworth 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-19. All three matches saw the Raiders hold Ellsworth to less than 20 points. Liv Swanson posted a team-high 10 kills. Libbie ball finished with 32 assists while Maleigha Johnson racked up 15 digs.

"Our final match of the day was by far our best showing of the weekend," said Young. "I thought we served well and were able to get an athletic Ellsworth squad out of system and it enabled us to take control of the match. Overall, I felt good about the weekend and the direction this team is heading."

The Raiders went 3-1 at the Siouxland Tournament and move to 6-1 on the season.
