
The Central Community College volleyball team split matches in the openers of the Siouxland Tournament on Friday. A brief recap of each match is below.
Match 1 vs. Northern Iowa Area Community College
The Raiders defeated NIACC, 3-0. The final scores were 25-15, 25-13 and 25-23. The Raiders jumped on the opponent early, winning the first two sets comfortably. The third set saw a much closer match play out with CCC still closing the game with a 25-23 final set. Libbie Ball accounted for 26 assists and Lauryn Scott finished with a team-high eight kills.
"We started the day with a good win over a competitive NIACC Squad," said Mary Young, CCC head coach. "I thought we were effective with serving and put a lot of pressure on NIACC and we were able to control the game."
Match 2 vs. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M handed the Raiders their first loss of the season, 3-0. The final scores were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-21. All three matches were close battles with the Blazers pulling away late.
Lauryn Scott led CCC with 10 kills and Libbie Ball tallied 31 assists. Ali Miller and Olivia Swanson accounted for 12 digs a piece. Marin Reilly and Maleigha Johnson each posted a team-high 13 digs.
"Northeastern Oklahoma was a solid matchup and we let some opportunities slip away from us," Young said. "Despite the loss, it was a great learning opportunity for our team to learn, improve and we will definitely bounce back from it."
Raiders volleyball is now 4-1 on the season.
