Volleyball: Raiders Claim Region 9 Championship

The Central Community College volleyball team won the NJCAA Region 9 title with a 3-1 victory over North Platte Community College at the Raider Fieldhouse on Saturday.

The Knights took the opening set by the final of 25-17 before the Raiders rattled off three straight victories to take the match and win the Region 9 championship. The final scores were 25-13, 25-11 and 25-14.

Ashley Brown topped CCC in kills with 13 while Chelsea Fisher chipped in 11. Kamryn Chonon tallied 33 assists and eight digs.

"It's difficult to beat a team three times in a season and especially a team like North Platte that is physical and very competitive," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "I'm very proud of our team and the resolve we showed in bouncing back from our first set loss. We are thrilled to once again be the Region 9 Champions."

Following the contest, Brown, Chohon, Chelsea Fisher and Jill Kelly were named to the Region 9 team.

Up next, the 17-19 Raiders will host Bismarck (N.D.) State College in the Northwest Plaines District Playoff. The Mystics are 31-3 following a 3-2 victory over North Dakota State College of Science in the Region 13 championship. The first match of the best-of-three series begins on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse. The second match will be played on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and if a third match is necessary, it will take place 30 minutes after the second match.
