Volleyball: Kirkwood Invitational Recap

The CCC volleyball team went 0-4 at the Kirkwood Invitational at Kirkwood (Iowa) Community College. A recap of each match is below. The Raiders are 6-12 on the season and will travel to McCook Community College on Wednesday. The first serve is set for 6 p.m.

Match 1 vs. McHenry County (Ill.) College

The Scots shut out the Raiders, 3-0, in opening round action by the final scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-23.

Ashley Brown led CCC in kills with nine while Kamryn Chohon totaled 22 assists. Jill Kelly recorded 21 digs.

Match 2 vs. Kirkwood Community College

The Raiders and hometown Eagles went four rounds before Kirkwood claimed a 4-1 victory. CCC won the opening set, 25-17, before Kirkwood rattled off three straight victories – 25-23, 25-17 and 25-17.

Brown tallied 13 kills, Chohon 30 assists and Kelly 18 digs.

Match 3 vs. Heartland (Ill.) Community College

The Raiders opened the second day with a 4-1 loss to the Hawks. CCC won the opening match, 25-20, followed by a Heartland win in the second set, 25-21. The Hawks took the third set, 25-18, before the Raiders gave it their all in the fourth set before falling 28-26.

Kennedi Branigan took tops in kills with 11 while Chohon finished with 38 assists. Kelly led the way in digs with 22.

Match 4 vs. Illinois Central College

The Raiders closed out the Kirkwood Invitational with a 4-1 loss to the Cougars. Illinois Central won the first set, 25-21, followed by CCC getting even in the second set, 25-17. The Cougars took the match with wins in the third and fourth set, 25-22 and 25-23.

Brown made 14 kills while Chohon finished with 43 assists. Kelly tallied 23 digs.
