Volleyball: CCC Splits at ICCC Tourney

The CCC volleyball team went 2-2 over the weekend at the Iowa Central Tournament. A recap of each match is below. The Raiders are 5-7 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday at a triangular at Northeast Community College. CCC will take on Hawkeye Community College at 5 p.m. before battling the host Hawks at 7 p.m.

Match 1 vs. Illinois Central College

The Cougars handed the Raiders an opening round loss, 3-1. Illinois Central won the first set, 25-17, followed by a 25-23 win in the second set. CCC avoided a shutout with a 26-24 victory in the third set. The Cougars took the match with a 25-22 triumph in the fourth set.

Ashley Brown made 16 kills while Kennedi Branigan made 15. Kamryn Chohon logged 36 assists while Jill Kelly tallied 17 digs.

Match 2 vs. Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College

The Raiders closed out the first day's action with a 3-0 win over the Greyhounds, 3-0. The final scores were 27-25, 25-19 and 25-18.

Branigan led CCC in kills with 11 while Chohon again totaled 36 assists. Kelly made 20 digs.

Match 3 vs. Lincoln Land (Ill.) Community College

The Raiders defeated the Loggers, 3-0, to open Saturday's schedule. The final scores read 27-25, 25-21 and 25-14.

Branigan made a dozen kills while Chohon recorded 30 assists. Kelly finished with 18 digs.

Match 4 vs. Iowa Central Community College

The host Tritons overtook the Raiders, 3-1, in the final match of the day. ICCC claimed the opening set, 25-22, to which CCC responded with a 25-21 victory in the second set. The Tritons took the match with victories in the third and fourth sets by the finals of 25-14 and 25-16.

Brown finished with 16 kills, Chohon with 28 assists and Kelly with 22 digs.
