Volleyball: Flames Victorious Over Raiders

The Central Community College volleyball team lost to the College of St. Mary JV, 3-1, on Tuesday night at the Raider Fieldhouse.

The Raiders opened the match with a 25-21 victory in the first game to which the Flames responded with three wins – 25-13, 25-13 and 25-20 – to take the match.

Afterward, CCC head coach Mary Young said that while she is disappointed, she understands that it is early in the season and her team is struggling with consistency.

"We are very much overthinking every play instead of having the mindset to move on to the next play and it's affecting us physically to the point it's taking up all our good energy," said Young. "I know we can turn this around, but we need the entire team to have that mindset."

Ashley Brown and Katee Korte led the Raiders in kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Josie Richards logged 36 assists while Kamryn Chohon totaled a team-high 25 digs.

The Raiders are 3-5 on the season and will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at a tournament hosted by Iowa Central Community College. On Friday at 4 p.m., CCC will battle Illinois Central College followed by 5:45 p.m. match against Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College. On Saturday, the Raiders open the day at 11:45 a.m. against Lincoln Land (Ill.) Community College before taking on the host Tritons at 1:30 p.m.
