Volleyball: CCC Splits at IWCC Triangular

The Central Community College Volleyball team won the first match of a triangular at Iowa Western Community College, followed by a defeat at the hands of the host team. A recap of both matches and a look at the next two opponents is below.

Match 1: vs. Cloud County CC

The Raiders flew right past the T-Birds in three sets – 25-16, 25-8, 25-9.

"We had a good match against Cloud County and had them out of system for most of the match, said CCC head coach Mary Young. "Lexi Holland did a great job serving with five aces and really helped us get into the flow of the match."

Maeghan Pieper led CCC in kills with eight. Riley Dorn logged 21 assists, while Sydney Yong finished with 21 digs.

Match 2: vs. Iowa Western CC

The Reivers ran past the Raiders – 25-21, 25-13, 26-24.

"Even though we lost in straight sets, I thought our team played pretty well in spurts and just needed to be more consistent over a longer period of time," said Young. "I felt if we could have taken the third set, we could have had a different outcome in the match."

Keshia Ellwanger tallied a dozen kills to lead CCC, while Dorn totaled 21 assists. Yong registered 14 digs, while Dorn was right behind with 13.

This Week

The Raiders are now 13-5 overall and 2-0 in league play with a pair of Region IX matches this week, both on the road. CCC will play at McCook Community College on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and then at North Platte Community College on Thursday at 6 p.m.

"We are looking forward to our road trip out west to McCook and North Platte," said Young. "Both gyms are difficult places to play and our match at NPCC is a key Region IX match, so we have to be ready to play hard. Both teams will play hard against us and will be formidable opponents on their respective home courts."
