Men’s Basketball: Raiders Tackle Tigers
Four players scored in double figures as the Raiders defeated Doane University JV at the Raider Fieldhouse on Monday night, 81-49.
The game was close throughout much of the first half before the Raiders held the Tigers scoreless over the final four minutes. CCC scored 14 points during that stretch and led 44-29 at halftime.
Doane remained scoreless for the first two minutes of the second half before Sheldon Cooper ended the slump with a three-point bucket. The Raiders led by 16 at that point and went onto build their biggest lead, 81-49, with under three minutes to play. The 81-49 advantage also turned out to be the final score.
CCC outrebounded Doane, 43-19, and scored 15 second-chance points. The Raiders also won the bench scoring column, 23-15.
"I was really pleased with our team," said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. "We had a very balanced effort and multiple guys contributed. We did a very good job of establishing an inside game and guarding the three-point line well in the second half."
Trey Deveaux (pictured #5) led all scorers with 17 points while Kevin Cook scored 13 points. Derek Merwick and Emarr Vinson each scored 11 points. Dwight Glover Jr. pulled down 11 defensive rebounds.
"Trey Deveaux played really well and was probably the most aggressive I've seen him so far this year," said Ritzdorf. "Emarr and Kevin did a great job of finishing at the basket and dominating the glass."
The Raiders are 3-0 and will resume play on Wednesday night with a home game against York College JV. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.
