Denise Marshall, M.Ed., ATC

Denise Marshall is a nationally certified and state-licensed athletic trainer with nearly two decades of experience in sports medicine and injury prevention. She has been a valued member of the Columbus Community Hospital team since 2007, where she serves as the Head Athletic Trainer and provides athletic training services to Central Community College – Columbus Campus.

A native of Ord, Nebraska, Denise graduated from Ord High School in 2001 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Hastings College in 2005. She completed her Master of Education in Athletic Training from the University of Nebraska–Omaha in 2007. Denise holds national certification through the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, Nebraska state licensure, and is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR, and First Aid.

 

Denise has been widely recognized for her leadership, service, and dedication to the athletic training profession. Her honors include:

· Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association Athletic Training Service Award (2024)

· University of Nebraska–Omaha Distinguished Service Award (2023)

· NATA Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine Head Athletic Trainer of the Year – Two-Year Institutions (2023)

· NSATA George Sullivan Athletic Trainer of the Year Award (2019)

· NAIA All-American – Women’s Track & Field, Hastings College (2005)

 

Denise currently serves as President of the Nebraska State Athletic Trainers’ Association (NSATA), a role she has held since 2021. She also represents Nebraska as the MAATA District V State Representative. Her past service includes roles as NSATA Vice President, Public Relations Chair, and member of several local and national committees focused on risk management, education, professional advancement, and advocacy.

In addition to her professional work, Denise is actively involved in her community, serving on the Immanuel Lutheran School Board. She has also contributed to mentorship initiatives and national workgroups, including the BOC Practice Analysis and the NATA Risk Management Toolkit.

Outside of work, Denise enjoys spending time with her family and friends and is an avid hunter. She and her husband Rob, who is also an athletic trainer at Columbus Community Hospital, reside in Columbus with their three children: Cyrus, Harper, and Traedyn.
