Volleyball: Raiders Claim Region 9 Title

The Central Community College volleyball team won the Region 9 championship with a 3-2 victory over North Platte Community College on Saturday at the Raider Fieldhouse.

CCC took the opening set, 30-28, which featured 14 ties and the Raiders leading by no more than four points. CCC took the second game, 25-23, but this time, North Platte's biggest lead was four points. The Knights avoided the shutout with a 25-20 victory in the third set. After falling behind 21-16, the Raiders cut the lead down to two before the Knights pulled out the five-point win. NPCC tied the match at 2-2 with an identical 25-20 final in the fourth set. In the decisive fifth set, the Raiders never relinquished the lead en route to a 15-9 victory to claim the Region 9 title.

"That was a typical North Platte-Central matchup," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "It's always going to be a hard-fought game and we're silly to think after the second set that we could get a sweep. They're always going to fight until the bitter end."

Josie Bentz and Lauryn Scott topped CCC in kills with 16 and 14, respectively. Libbie Ball dished out 52 assists and Ali Miller finished with 27 digs.

After the title match, Bentz and Scott along with Chelsea Fisher and Katee Korte were named to the All-Region 9 Team.

The Raiders are 21-10 and will play in the district championship against the winner of Region 13.
