Volleyball: CCC Sweeps Highland and Northeast

The Central Community College volleyball team won both matches in a triangular at the Raider Fieldhouse on Friday. A brief recap of each match is below. CCC is 8-3 on the season and will return to play on Wednesday at McCook Community College. The Raiders and the Indians will battle at 6 p.m.

Match 1 vs. Highland (Kan.) Community College

The Raiders defeated the Scotties, 3-0. The final scores were 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18. Chelsea Fisher and and Katee Korte led CCC in kills with nine apiece. Libbie Ball tallied 36 assists while Ali Miller and Halie Kaslon topped the Raiders in digs with 23 and 19, respectively.

Match 2 vs. Northeast Community College

The Raiders and the Hawks went five full games before CCC posted a 3-2 victory. Northeast took the first set, 25-19, followed by CCC logging a 25-23 win. The Hawks took the third game, 25-14, before the Raiders tied the match and two games apiece with a 25-21 victory. CCC took the match with a 16-14 win in the decisive fifth game.

Fisher totaled 14 kills while Olivia Swanson finished with 13. Ball amassed 48 assists and Miller registered 28 digs.

"The match against Northeast was a battle and I'm so proud of our team and its mindset," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "The team showed incredible resolve, particularly winning set four after playing so poorly in set three. I can't say enough about our grit in set five when we were down 9-13 and were able to focus for the win."
