Volleyball: Cowley Invitational Recap

The Central Community College volleyball team went 1-3 at the Cowley Invitational, hosted by Cowley College. A brief recap of each match is below. The Raiders are now 9-13 on the season. The Raiders will travel to Southeast Community College on Wednesday. The match starts at 7 p.m. in Beatrice.

Match 1 vs. Barton Community College

The Cougars shutout the Raiders, 3-0, in opening round action. The final scores were 25-15, 25-22 and 25-15.

Abbe Mancuso led the Raiders in kills with eight, while Rylee Kwapnioski logged 28 assists. Lydia Permenter made 14 digs, while Devyn Erickson added 10.

Match 2 vs. Cowley College

The Raiders put up quite a fight with the host Tigers, but Cowley was able to get the sweep. The final scores read 25-20, 25-16 and 29-27.

Shania Borchers, Erickson, Mancuso and Jordan Wegner each totaled six kills. Kwapnioski tallied 26 assists, while Kamri Adler finished with 10 digs.

Match 3 vs. Metro Community College-Longview

The Raiders shutout the Wolves, 3-0, in the first match of day two action. The final scores were 25-22, 25-15 and 25-19.

Wegner and Mancuso made 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Kwapnioski logged 42 assists and 13 digs.

Match 4 vs. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M

The Raiders pushed the Golden Norse to five games before NEO was able to get the 3-2 victory.

CCC took the opening set, 26-24, while NEO claimed the second set, 25-19. The Golden Norse won the third game, 25-22, while the Raiders evened the match at two apiece with a 25-19 victory in the fourth game. NEO won the match with a 15-9 triumph in the decisive fifth set.

Erickson led the Raiders with 15 kills, while Kwapnioski finished with 45 assists. Adler tallied 20 digs.

Erickson and Wegner were named to the Cowley Invitational all-tournament team. 

"We saw some tough competition this weekend and grew as a team," said CCC head coach Abby Pollart. "We're getting better each week and we have a great opportunity this week to continue on that path."
