Volleyball: Raiders Close Out The 2018 Season

The Central Community College volleyball team lost to North Platte Community College, 3-0, in the championship match of the Region IX tournament on Sunday.

The final scores read 25-17, 25-23, 25-20.

Abbe Mancuso recorded eight kills, while Rylee Kwapnioski finished with 26 assists. Maddie Davis, Mallory Gotschall and Jacie Laetsch each posted 10 digs.

With the loss, the Raiders finished the 2018 season with a record of 19-20.

"It's heartbreaking for our team and our staff to be finished with the season so soon," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We're used to playing deep into November, so we're finding ourselves in unchartered territory."

Despite the disappointment of not returning to the NJCAA national tournament, Young remains positive about the season.

"We didn't hit a couple of our goals for the season, but you can measure success in different ways," said Young. "I saw a ton of growth in all of our athletes. We had adversity along the way and our student-athletes never gave up on the process.  I am really proud of how they represented themselves and Central Community College."

Young also had good things to say about her six sophomores who will be moving on from the program.

"They are wonderful people and I can't say enough about their character, competitive spirit, and just overall joy they are to have in our program," said Young. "We will miss them a great deal."
