Volleyball: Iowa Western Sweeps CCC

The Central Community College volleyball team lost to Iowa Western Community College, 3-0, on Wednesday night at Raider Fieldhouse. The win gives the Reivers a season sweep over the Raiders as IWCC defeated CCC, 3-0, on Sept. 14.

The final scores read 25-15, 25-11, 25-18.

Jacie Laetsch recorded seven kills, while Rylee Kwapnioski delivered 18 assists. Maddie Davis and Laetsch finished with seven digs apiece.

"Iowa western is ranked #3 in NJCAA Division I and is obviously a great team," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We struggled to get into a rhythm in our offense and a lot of that can be attributed to IWCC's size and their physical play at the net. Playing competition like IWCC will make us better in the long run and we will use the loss as a way to become stronger as a unit and to be the best team we can be in October."

Wednesday's loss gives the Raiders a .500 record at 10-10.

Up next, CCC will take part in the Johnson County Community College Volleyball Challenge in Overland Park, Kan., on Friday and Saturday. The Raiders will take on Des Moines Area Community College at 2 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 6 p.m. contest with Fort Scott Community College. CCC defeated Fort Scott, 3-2, at the Northeast Tournament on Sept. 1.

On Saturday, the Raiders will meet Coffeyville Community College at 11 a.m., before battling host Johnson County Community College at 1 p.m. JCCC defeated CCC, 3-0, at Ottawa (Kan.) University on Aug. 25.
