Volleyball: Three Nebraska Seniors Sign With CCC

Central Community College volleyball is pleased to announce the signings of Lydia Permenter (left), Susie Vavra (center) and Maddie Walkowiak (right).

Permenter, a hitter from Ralston High School, helped lead the Rams to their first Class B state tournament in 14 years and a record of 24-9. She had 222 kills (2.5 per set), 121 blocks (1.4 per set) and 450 digs (5.1 per set) in 2017.

"Lydia a great addition to the team," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "She has great experience playing for Ralston and her experience in club volleyball will help in her transition to the college game.  We like the fact that Lydia is a six-rotation player and has the ability to play any hitting position."

Permenter would eventually like to study veterinary medicine. She is the daughter of John and Janet Permenter of Ralston.

Vavra, a middle hitter from Ord High School, led the Chanticleers to the Class C-1 state tournament and a mark of 27-6. She had 163 kills (1.8 per set) and 104 blocks (1.1 per set).

"We are excited to add another Chanticleer to the Raider volleyball program as we have had some really great ones from Ord High School," said Young.  "Susie brings a great work ethic and a lot of excitement to the court and we look forward to seeing her grow in our program.  She is a great blocker and in the college game, that is so valuable."

Vavra will study nursing at CCC. She is the daughter of Robert and Barb Vavra of Ord.

Walkowiak, an outside hitter from Riverside High School, led the Chargers to a 21-11 record. She had 372 kills (4.4 per set), 303 digs (3.6 per set).

"Maddie is a tremendous athlete despite her 5-foot-6-inch frame," said Young. "She soars above the net and her athleticism will be a great asset. Maddie will really blossom at Central and no doubt, it will be exciting to see her grow in our program."

Walkowiak is undecided on a major. She is the daughter of Ken and Jean Walkowiak of Spalding.
