Volleyball: CCC Going Back to Nationals

The Central Community College volleyball team will make a seventh consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division II national tournament after defeating Bismarck State College in the District G championship.

In the opening match, the Raiders shutout the Mystics, 3-0. The final scores read 25-22, 25-17, 25-23. Jacie Laetsch led the Raiders with a double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs. Lexi Holland also had 14 digs. Paxton Throne had 33 assists, while Jordee Korte had two solo blocks and three block assists.

In the second match, CCC defeated Bismarck State, 3-1. The Raiders took the first two sets with identical 25-21 victories. The Mystics took the third set, 25-22. However, the Raiders won the district title with a 25-14 win in the final set. Chainey Tompkin led the Raiders with 17 kills, while Paxton Throne dished out 49 assists and recorded 13 digs. Jacie Laetsch had a dozen kills and 11 digs. 

The Raiders are now 33-10 on the season, while the Mystics finish the 2017 campaign with a mark of 29-9.

CCC will now wait to see who its opponent is in the opening round of the national tournament, which will be held at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia, Nov. 16-18. The announcement will be posted on the CCC athletics website and on social media as soon as it becomes available.
