Volleyball: CCC Sweeps at IWCC

The Central Community College volleyball team won all four of its matches at the Iowa Western Community College tournament in Council Bluffs on Friday and Saturday. A brief recap of each match is below.

The Raiders are now 28-8 on the season and will travel to Northeast Community College for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday evening.

Match 1: vs. Monroe College

The NJCAA Division I Mustangs made the most of their venture from New York by pressing the Raiders to the absolute limit in a five-set thriller. Monroe won the first two sets – 25-18, 25-19. CCC avoided the sweep with a 25-22 victory in set 3. The Raiders then outlasted the Mustangs in set 4 with a 31-29 win to tie it up. In the decisive set, CCC had to battle back from a 14-10 deficit before posting a 17-15 win.

"Our match against Monroe was epic," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We didn't play with much energy in the first two sets and it showed in the result. We battled back in set 4 and showed incredible grittiness on defense and trust in each other. I can't say enough about our patience and determination. Amber Anderson did a phenomenal job of serving aggressive and getting Monroe out of system and Chainey Tompkin finished the match with an ace serve. It was a great quality win over a strong Division I program."
