Volleyball: CCC goes 2-2 at Raider Classic

The Central Community College volleyball team won two and lost two in its own Raider Classic at Raider Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday. A brief recap of each match is below.

The Raiders are now 24-7 on the season and will host North Platte Community College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

Match 1: vs. Williston State College

CCC swept the Tetons, 3-0, to open the Raider Classic. The final scores read 25-14, 25-12, 25-19.

Chainey Tompkin and Amber Anderson led the Raiders in kills with 13 apiece. Maddie Davis logged a career-high 45 assists, while Jacie Laetsch and Jordee Korte each recorded eight digs.

Match 2: vs. Kansas City Kansas CC

The Blue Devils defeated the Raiders, 3-1, in CCC's second match of the Raider Classic. KCKCC took the first two sets – 25-21, 25-21. The Raiders bounced back in set 3 with a 25-13 decision before the Blue Devils claimed victory, 25-22, in set 4.

Amber Anderson topped CCC in kills with 12, while Maddie Davis dished out 38 assists. Lexi Holland finished the match with 20 digs.

"We ran into a confident KCKCC squad that played with a ton of confidence and we weren't able to get into a good rhythm," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We really struggled at the net offensively."

Match 3: vs. Bismarck State College

The Raiders defeated the Mystics, 3-0, to open the second day of the Raider Classic. The scores read 25-23, 25-17, 25-17.

Chainey Tompkin totaled 13 kills, while Maddie Davis recorded 44 assists. Lexi Holland led the way in digs with 15.

Match 4: vs. Iowa Central CC

The Tritons triumphed the Raiders, 3-1, to close out the Raider Classic. The first two sets were won by Iowa Central – 25-16, 25-23. The Raiders took the third set, 25-21. However, a CCC comeback was stifled in the fourth set as the Tritons took the match with a 25-23 victory.

"Iowa Central is a solid team and we hung right with them and made them play to beat us," said Young. "We were bitten by the injury bug once again as Maddie Davis suffered what appears to be a concussion in the second set. However, I thought Jordee Korte showed a lot of poise as she stepped into the role of setter and made great decisions. We continue to get tested with all of our injuries and I'm really proud of our team and their ability to stay positive and cohesive. I do believe it's preparing us for something great."
