Volleyball: Reivers Outlast Raiders

The Central Community College volleyball team lost for the second time this season to Iowa Western Community College on Wednesday night. The final score this time around was 3-2 in favor of the Reivers.

IWCC opened the match with a 25-21 victory in set 1, which was equaled by CCC's 25-22 win in set 2. The Raiders then moved ahead with another 25-22 decision in set 3. The Reivers tied the match in set 4 with a 27-25 triumph. Iowa Western then took the match with a 15-8 win in the 5th set.

"I was really proud of my entire team, CCC head coach Mary Young told the Columbus Telegram. "We played hard and went to battle tonight."

Meaghan Pieper was tops in kills for the Raiders with 16. Paxton Throne recorded 41 assists, while Maddie Davis and Jacie Laetsch finished the night with 22 and 19 digs, respectively.

With the loss, the Raiders are now 19-3 overall on the season.

Up next, CCC will take part in the Johnson County Volleyball Challenge on Friday and Saturday in Overland Park, Kansas. On Friday, the Raiders will take on Des Moines Area Community College at 4 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. match against Kirkwood Community College.

On Saturday, CCC gets an early start with a 9 a.m. meeting against Cowley County Community College. At 11 a.m., the Raiders will take on the host team, the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers. CCC defeated both Cowley County (3-1) and Johnson County (3-2) at a tournament in Wichita, Kansas, in August.
