CCC shook off Thursday's disappointing performance in the NJCAA DII National Tournament with a convincing 3-0 win over the Community College of Rhode Island. The Raiders took control of the Lady Knights with long scoring runs in each set.

"It was a good way to bounce back after yesterday's disappointing loss," said CCC head coach Mary Young, who pointed out that improved serving played a key role in the win. "We served pretty poorly yesterday and to be able to do that today put that confidence back in us, and we're going to need that to keep pushing through and advance a day longer in the tournament."

The opening set saw the eighth-seed Raiders jump out of the gate on a 6-0 run. That was answered by the 16-seed Lady Knights going on a 6-1 run to cut CCC's lead to 7-6. The Raiders then rattled off an 18-4 run from that point to take the set, 25-10.

CCC started out the second set falling behind 4-0 before reeling off a 20-6 run to lead 20-10. The Raiders went on to take set 2 by a 25-11 final.

In the final set, CCC continued the dominance closing on a 17-2 run to take the 25-12 final.

The Raiders will next take on the Raiders of Grand Rapids (MI) Community College today at 3:30. Number 12 seed Grand Rapids is 27-7 following a 3-1 win over Northeast (NE) earlier today. GRCC lost to fifth-seed Coffeyville (KS) in Thursday's opening round play.
