Volleyball: CCC Wins a Pair at IWCC Tourney

The Central Community College Volleyball team participated in the Iowa Western Community College Tournament on Friday. The Raiders recorded a pair of shut out victories over Iowa Lakes Community College and Independence Community College, respectively. A recap of each match follows.

Match 1: vs. Iowa Lakes CC

The Raiders defeated the Lakers in three sets – 25-21, 25-17 and 25-17.

Keshia Ellwanger recorded a dozen kills to lead CCC, while Riley Dorn totaled 30 assists. Sydney Yong finished with 13 digs.

Match 2: vs. Independence CC

The Raiders held off a strong Pirates squad in the first set, 25-23, before taking command of the final two sets, 25-15 and 25-16.

Chainey Tompkin topped CCC in kills with 11, while Riley Dorn finished with 34 assists. Sydney Yong tallied a dozen digs. Independence was led in kills by Breanna Waldo with 11, while Ellisangi Matos totaled 33 assists. Alessia Laghi logged 21 digs.

"Overall, it was a great end to our week, said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We head into our fall break on a positive note and will get a little break which will help us to reset. Plus, it will give us a little push going into the post-season."
