Volleyball: Raiders Knock Out the Knights

The Central Community College Volleyball team defeated North Platte Community College, 3-1, to remain undefeated in Region IX play. After relinquishing the opening set, 25-16, the Raiders secured the victory by taking the next three sets – 25-20, 25-11, 25-22.

"NPCC blocked extremely well to take control of the first set," said CCC head coach Mary Young. "We then were able to turn the tide with our own blocking in set two, three and four, to make a major difference in the outcome of the match."

Keshia Ellwanger led the way in kills with nine, while Riley Dorn was tops in assists with 24. Sydney Yong recorded 22 digs on the night. The Knights were led in kills by Jessica Lovitt with nine. Shelby Wolever tallied 25 assists, while Megan Chintala finished with 25 digs.

"I was proud of our players to maintain focus and trust in one another and to push through the mental mistakes of set one," said Young. "They showed great resolve and patience on defense and that was what truly won the match for us."

With the win, the Raiders are now 15-5 on the season, while the Knights are now 6-11. CCC will be back in action on Tuesday with a home match against Iowa Western Community College at 7 p.m.
