Volleyball: Raiders Surrender Nothing at NECC Tourney

Central Community College improved to 8-2 on the 2016 season by winning all of its matches at the NECC Tournament in Norfolk. In fact, the Raiders never lost a single set over the two-day tournament. A brief recap of each match is below. CCC will be back in Raider Fieldhouse on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for a conference match against Southeast CC.

Match 1: vs. Iowa Lakes CC

The Lakers pushed the Raiders to the limit in the first match before falling 27-25. CCC then won the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-15.

The Raiders were led in kills by Amber Anderson with 10, while Riley Dorn totaled 33 assists and 13 digs. The Lakers were led in kills by Julia Beckius with 10, Jazmin Benally logged 25 assists. RaeAhna Harmon finished the match with 16 digs.

Match 2: vs. Fort Scott CC

In what was a complete opposite from the first match, the Raiders easily won the first two sets with the Greyhounds, 25-17 and 25-16. Fort Scott then put on the heat in the third set before CCC was able to put it away, 27-25.

Anderson and Keisha Ellwanger each logged 14 kills in the match, while Dorn tallied 42 assists. Sydney Yong led the Raiders in digs with 19. On the other side, Brette Moore was tops for the Greyhounds (7-2) in kills with 12, while Mickey Trimble amassed 28 assists. Katie Gorman finished with 31 digs.

Match 3: vs. Marshalltown CC

The Raiders made it look easy in getting by the Tigers, 25-12, 25-13 and 25-13.

Maeghan Pieper posted 11 kills for CCC, while Dorn added 31 assists. Yong chipped in a dozen digs. Marshalltown (2-6) was led in kills by Jordan Carter with nine, while Nina Bales finished with 20 assists. Rieley Rodman finished with 10 digs.

Match 4: vs. North Dakota State College of Science

CCC took the first set, 25-16, before the Wildcats charged back in the second set before falling, 26-24. The Raiders then completed the sweep with a 25-18 final in the third set.

Ellwanger led the Raiders in kills with 13, while Dorn tallied 33 assists. Shae Voss was the leader in digs with 12. The Wildcats were led in kills by Mikayla Gessell with eights, while Haley Kelvington finished with 21 assists.
