COLUMBUS -- The Raiders made quick work of the Broncos, taking them down in straight sets.

The National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, No. 3 Central Community College volleyball team team defeated the Hastings JV 25-10, 25-22, 25-13 Friday at the Raider Fieldhouse.

"We finished off the week with a good win," Central head coach Mary Young said. "A lot of athletes got in and I felt like we really communicated throughout all that. We saw a lot of positive things that happened as a result."

The Raiders cruised to a first-set win, taking the set 25-10.

After the first set, Central switched up the lineup, which let Hastings hang around in the second set.

"They set the tone early, so they felt like they were going to go after it in the next set," Young said. "We really switched the lineup a little bit and that takes some time to work through. We went away from good, strong passing in Set 2 and that got us into trouble and Hastings hung around. We didn't take control of the set, much like we did in Set 3 and Set 1."

Still, the Raiders were able to come from behind and take the second set, 25-22.

"I was really pleased with that because a few weeks ago, they wouldn't have done that," Young said of the second-set comeback. "It would have freaked them out a little bit. I felt like they really came together and played within their means and did the little things to get themselves back in it."

After going up two sets to zero, passing was a focus for the Raiders in the third set.

"In the third set, we talked a lot about our passing scheme and getting our feet to the ball -- we weren't doing that," Young said. "When we pass well, every single one of our hitters enjoy that and certainly our setter appreciates that. That was really our downfall in the second set -- we quit passing well."

Central took the third set 25-13 for the three-set win.

Skyler Erickson recorded 10 kills, while Payton Chohon had nine kills, and Makaleigh Yantzie and Megan Anderson each had seven kills.

"I feel pretty fortunate that we have some nice, athletic hitters on our team," Young said. "On any given night, it could be any of them that could lead us. That is what makes our team so strong. Other teams can't focus on one because another player could hurt you. It's a luxury for us. We can enjoy a variety of hitters getting into the mix."

Anderson added two blocks, while Morgan Nikkila had four ace serves, and Cassidy Yong recorded 29 set assists.

The Raiders improve to 12-2 on the season with the win.

Central travels to McCook Wednesday.
