Women’s Soccer: CCC Hangs Tough With Gillette

The Central Community College women's soccer team lost to Gillette College, 2-1, on Saturday at the Raider Soccer Complex.

The Pronghorns' Karlie Valdez scored the lone goal in the first half and led 1-0 at halftime. The Raiders tied the score at 1-1 with 25 minutes remaining as Mei Hou scored off the assist of Madison Hurst. Five minutes later, Gillette's Sarah Williams scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal for the 2-1 final.

CCC goalie Rachel Willette had a busy afternoon as she recorded 18 saves.

"Once again, I am happy with the way the girls played," said CCC head coach Jamie Bennett. "To play the #2 team in our region that close is somewhat of a moral victory. With it being our last region game this year, we are disappointed with the loss. However, we see the light at the end of the tunnel and the hard work paying off."

The loss gives the Raiders a 5-10 mark.

CCC will return to the pitch on Tuesday when it hosts Doane University JV. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Raider Soccer Complex.
