Women’s Basketball: Raiders Win Two

The Central Community College women's basketball won two games during the week of Dec 4. Recaps of both games are below. The Raiders are 2-14 on the season.

Game 1: CCC 99  York University JV 80

The Raiders won their first game of the year with a convincing 19-point over the York University JV at Freeman Gymnasium on Dec. 6. The first quarter was a virtual deadlock with CCC gaining the upper hand, 21-20. The Raiders defense held the Panthers to 12 points in the second quarter for a 42-32 halftime lead. The teams were close in the third quarter before CCC took off in the fourth period en route to the 99-80 victory.

Four CCC players finished in double figures with Nikie Nelson leading the charge with 25 points. Ajae McKimmey scored a season-best 19 points while Aubry Saleapaga totaled a dozen points. Desiray Diaz scored 10 points off the bench.

"Overall, it's great to get our first win," said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. "I thought we came out a little slow to start the game, but once we settled in, I thought we got some easy buckets against their zone and found the open person. It is always nice to see four players in double figures and we had 24 assists on 34 field goals."

Game 2: CCC 87  Hesston College 65

Aubry Saleapaga scored a season-high 28 points and Nikie Nelson recorded her seventh double-double of the season (27 points and 13 rebounds) as the Raiders defeated the Larks in Hesston, Kan., 87-65, on Dec. 9.

The Raiders set the tone early with a 36-14 advantage in the first quarter. CCC went on to lead 54-29 at the half. The Raiders scored 32 points in the second half, but the Larks never threatened and CCC logged its second straight win.

CCC's Makena Pelster (pictured, #12) also scored in double figures as she tallied 11 points.

The Raiders will close out December's schedule at the Hampton Inn Classic at North Platte Community College on Friday and Saturday. On Friday at 5:30 p.m., CCC will meet Central Wyoming College, followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Kansas City Kansas Community College on Saturday.
