Women’s Basketball: Storm Reigns Over CCC

The Central Community College women's basketball team closed out the 2022-23 season with a 69-54 home loss to Southeast Community College.

Before the game, sophomores Nyamiri Blair (left), Ashley Brown (right), Madisen Jelinek (second from left), Morgan Juranek (second from right), Amy Mitchell (third from left) and Allie Neujahr (third from right) were honored as they played their final regular season contest at the Raider Fieldhouse.

The Raiders and Storm were close as SCC took a 23-21 at the end of the first quarter. Southeast held CCC to eight points in the second period and went to halftime up 35-29. The Raiders struggled in the second half, scoring 10 points in the third quarter while the Storm led by as many as 16 points in the fourth period.

"Our shooting was bad in the second, third and fourth quarters so that put us behind the eight ball," said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. "Our downfall this season when we lose games has been (low) shooting percentages, and it's not that we're not getting the shot, just executing it."

Nikie Nelson led CCC with 16 points while Jelinek totaled 14 points.

The loss gives the Raiders a 14-14 record.

Up next, CCC begins postseason play with a Wednesday night game against North Platte Community College at the Raider Fieldhouse. The contest begins at 6 p.m. and the winner will battle Southeast Community College for the Region 9 championship on Saturday.
