Women’s Basketball: Raiders Go 2-1 for the Week

The Central Community College women's basketball team went 2-1 from Feb. 3 through Feb. 9. A recap of each game is below. The Raiders are 12-12 on the season and will take on the Mount Marty JV on Monday night at 6 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.

Game 1: CCC 60  North Plate Community College 50 (Feb. 3)

The Raiders saved their best for last in the 10-point win over the Knights. CCC owned a 21-17 lead at halftime before North Platte outscored the Raiders in the third period, 21-16, to take a 38-37 after three. In the fourth quarter, CCC held the Knights to 12 points to take the 60-50 victory.

Amy Mitchell led the Raiders in scoring while Nikie Nelson added 19 points.

"That was one of best defensive games we have played all season," said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. "We struggled a bit on offense but executed down the stretch and had some great contributions by Amy Mitchell and Nikie Nelson. But it was a great team effort all around.

Game 2: Iowa Western Community College 86  CCC 50 (Feb. 6)

The Reivers set the tone early as they outscored the Raiders in the first quarter, 34-8, and went on to post a 36-point win.

Nelson and Madisen Jelinek each scored 12 points to lead CCC in scoring.

"I knew this game was going to be challenging for our kids, but I really thought after the first half we settled in a little bit and hit some shots," Stoltz said. "We struggled early on with some turnovers in their press and got sped up a little bit on offense. But give the kids credit, they battled the whole game and we showed at times that we can play at a high level, we just need to be a bit more consistent throughout the whole game."

Game 3: CCC 65  Doane University JV 57 (Feb. 9)

The visiting Tigers took a 37-34 lead over the Raiders at halftime, but it was all Raider afterward. CCC outscored Doane JV in the third quarter, 19-9, and held on for the win. The Raiders scored 22 points off 15 turnovers while CCC reserves bested the Doane JV reserves, 21-11.

Jelinek logged a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Alyssa Reardon scored 14 points off the bench.

"I thought in the third quarter, we came out with some intensity and got out in transition and scored some easy buckets," said Stoltz. "Our defense picked up in the second half and we managed to find a way to win in the end."
