Women’s Basketball: Hampton Inn Classic Recap

The Central Community College women's basketball team split a pair of weekend games at the Hampton Inn Classic, hosted by North Platte Community College. A recap of both games is below. The Raiders are 7-8 on the season and will resume the season schedule at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, when they host Concordia University JV.

Game 1: CCC 90  Trinidad State College 83

The Raiders survived a late surge by the Trojans to post a 90-83 victory. The first half was close as CCC held a 41-36 edge at halftime. The Raiders took command in the third period when they outscored the Trojans, 29-18, to take a 70-54 advantage into the final quarter. Trinidad State bested the Raiders in the final stanza, 29-20, but time ran out and CCC held on for the win.

Madisen Jelinek posted a double-double with 29 points and 19 rebounds. Amy Mitchell returned from injury and poured in 24 points. Nikie Nelson finished with 13 points while Desiray Diaz and Alyssa Reardon scored 10 points apiece.

"I thought we were really efficient on offense against Trinidad," said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. "We shot 49 percent from the field and made nine three-point baskets. When you have Madi with 27 points and 19 rebounds and Amy with 24 points, that really helps our offense."

Game 2: Otero College 100  CCC 67

The Rattlers scored an even 100 points on the Raiders en route to a 33-point victory. Otero scored early and often in building a 56-31 halftime lead and never let up.

Mitchell led the Raiders with 20 points while Nelson totaled 17 points. Jelinek posted a second consecutive double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds.

"We really struggled to score from the field," Stoltz said. "We got pretty good looks; we just couldn't convert it with a bucket. Now we a get some time off to heal some lingering injuries and sickness and look forward to making a run starting in January."
