Women’s Basketball: Broncos Hold Off Raiders

The Central Community College women's basketball team lost to the Hastings College JV, 70-60, on Tuesday night at the Raider Fieldhouse.

The Raiders struggled offensively in the first half as they scored eight points in the first quarter, 12 in the second period and trailed 39-20 at halftime. CCC outscored Hastings JV 23-17 in the third stanza, but the Raiders could never get ahead. The Broncos reserves bested the CCC reserves, 23-9, and finished with 48 percent in field goal shooting.

"We just really couldn't put the ball in the basket," said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. "I thought got open looks and we got what we wanted on offense, but just couldn't put it in. (Hastings) got all the rolls and all the bounces."

Amy Mitchell led the Raiders in scoring with 23 points while Madisen Jelinek finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. Stoltz praised Mitchell's performance.

"Amy was good," Stoltz said. "Late in the third quarter, she got us back into it. Defensively, she was active and got some steals and layups."

The loss snapped the Raiders' three-game winning streak and gives them a record of 5-3.

CCC returns to action on Tuesday with a road contest at McCook Community College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
