Women’s Basketball: CCC Splits at Emerson Classic

The Central Community College women's basketball team split a pair of games at the Emerson Classic at Marshalltown Community College. A recap of each game is below. The Raiders are now 4-2 on the season and will return home on Tuesday night to host Hastings College JV at 5 p.m.

Game 1 vs. Iowa Lakes Community College

The Lakers built a 40-22 halftime lead before limiting the Raiders to 18 points in the second half.

Isabel Diaz led CCC in scoring with 12 points.

Game 2 vs. Des Moines Area Community College

For the second consecutive Saturday, CCC defeated Des Moines Area Community College. This time, the final was 64-59.

The first half was close throughout and the Raiders led 33-28 at the half. DMACC outscored CCC in the third quarter, 22-11, to take a 50-44 advantage. The Raiders saved the best for last as they bested the Bears 20-9 in the fourth quarter for the 64-59 final.

Monica Brooks led the Raiders in scoring with 25 points, while Jasmine Williams contributed 19 points.

"The team did a great job of bouncing back from the first night and played some really good basketball against DMACC," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "We grew as a team and played through some foul trouble and some injury. Overall, I am proud of our team and where we are headed."
