Women’s Basketball: CCC Outlasts NPCC

The Raiders survived a scare from the Lady Knights in the first round of the Region IX Tournament on Wednesday night at Raider Fieldhouse. After watching a 16-point lead in the first half dwindle down to single digits, CCC posted an 88-77 victory for the right to move on.

The teams were deadlocked at 22 apiece following the first quarter when the Raiders took off on a 21-5 run to open the second quarter for a 43-27 advantage. CCC went on to lead 49-35 at the half.

The Lady Knights returned the favor to open the third quarter by rattling off at 22-9 to cut the CCC lead down to one, 60-59. The Raiders held a 64-59 lead after three quarters.

The final period remained close until the final four minutes of regulation when the Raiders went on an 11-5 run to build an 86-72 lead en route to the win.

"I am very proud of our team," said CCC head coach Billy Perkins. "North Platte did a good job of making a push to cut into the lead, but our girls stayed together and continued to play hard and finished the game."

Maddy Wolfe led five CCC players in double figures with 24 points. Quenshae Love scored 22 points, while Alexis Ramaekers tallied a dozen points. Paxton Throne came off the bench to score 11 points, while Payton Blanke finished the night with 10 points.

With the win, the Raiders go to 9-20 on the season, while the Lady Knights finish the year at 4-23.

Up next, CCC will take on Southeast Community College in the Region IX Tournament championship game on Monday in Beatrice. The 11-18 Lady Storm swept the Raiders during the regular season with an 83-75 win in Columbus on Feb. 2, followed by a 92-60 victory in Beatrice on Feb. 25. Tip-off for Monday night's title game is set for 7 p.m.
