Women’s Basketball: Raiders Fall in Double OT

The Central Community College women's basketball was defeated by Marshalltown Community College in double overtime, 87-84, in first round action of the Emerson Classic.

The hometown Tigers led the Raiders after the first quarter, 22-14, after CCC failed to score over the final 2:33.

In the second quarter, the Raiders scored only three baskets. One at the 9:10 mark, one at the 4:31 mark and the final one with 1:37 to play in the first half. Marshalltown led 35-20 at halftime.

The Raiders picked up steam in the third quarter with a 12-4 run over the first three minutes. CCC kept it close and trained 48-44 at the end of three quarters.

In the fourth, CCC scored the first six points over a two-and-a-half minute span to take a 50-48 lead. From that point on, the biggest lead by either team was four points. The game was sent to overtime when Marshalltown's Alyssa Roth missed a layup at the buzzer with the score knotted at 64.

The first overtime period was close throughout and CCC's Payton Blanke forced an additional overtime with a layup with seven seconds remaining to make the score 75-all.

In the second overtime, the Raiders took an 84-82 lead with 1:11 to play on another Payton Blanke layup. But that would be the final CCC score of the night as the Tigers scored the final five points to secure the 87-84 victory.

Four Raiders scored in double figures with Jada Warner leading the way with 25 points. Lexie Bacon scored 20 points, while Maddy Wolfe chipped in 17 points. Reserve Jordyn Popple scored 14 points.

With the loss, CCC is now 2-4 on the season. Up next, the Raiders will take on Des Moines Area Community College in the second round of the Emerson Classic on Saturday.
