Softball: Raiders Calm Storm Twice

The Central Community College softball team defeated Southeast Community College in a twin bill on Sunday at Raider Field.

In the first game, the Raiders set the tone early with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. After a single run in the second, CCC exploded with six runs in the third inning and went on to win, 12-2. Caroline Riffer belted two homeruns while Emma Lees and Addison Heule (pictured) each scored a single homer. Riffer and Heule each finished with three RBIs. CCC pitcher Kailee Pollard faced 22 SCC pitchers and picked up the win to give her a 7-2 record.

The second game was much closer as the Raiders outlasted the Storm, 6-4. CCC opened the scoring with a single run in the bottom and another in the bottom of the third for a 2-0 lead. The Raiders added four runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 6-0. The Storm responded with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut CCC's lead to 6-3. Southeast logged one additional run in the top of the seventh, but that's where the comeback closed as the Raiders held on for the two-run victory. Katie Paczosa logged a homerun and three RBIs.

The 11-8 Raiders will host Cloud County Community College in a double-header at Raider Field on Tuesday. Game times are at 2 and 4 p.m.
