Softball: Raiders Conclude 2022 Season

The Central Community College softball closed out the 2022 season with a pair of losses to Des Moines Area Community College in Friday's North Plains District Tournament. A recap of both game is below:

Game 1: Des Moines Area Community College 13  Central Community College 5 (five innings)

The Bears scored six runs in both the second and third innings en route to a 13-5 victory. CCC's Andrea Fernandez belted a three-run homerun in the third inning with Emma Lees and Caroline Riffer scoring runs. Lees added another run and Bailey Jones also scored. Kailee Pollard took the loss.

Game 2: Des Moines Area Community College 9  Central Community College 1 (five innings)

The Bears held the Raiders to a single run in the fourth inning to claim a 9-1 triumph and advance to the NJCAA national tournament. Riffer scored the lone run for CCC, and Pollard took the loss.

With the losses, the Raiders closed out the 2022 season with a mark of 17-29, winning the Region 9 championship along the way.

"As a team, we experienced a lot of ups and downs and I am so proud of this group for committing to each other and finishing the season strong," said CCC head coach Caitlin Simon. "Our sophomores will be missed, and we thank them for everything. We are very excited for the experience returning for the 2022-23 season."
