Men’s Soccer: CCC Overpowers Gillette

Syrus Conolly scored three goals to lead the Central Community College men's soccer team to a 6-2 win over Gillette College at Raider Field on Sunday.

Conolly's scored his first goal, unassisted, one minute into the contest to make the score 1-0. Gillette's Julen Arteaga evened the score, 1-1, in the 14th minute, also on an unassisted goal. In the 27th minute, Conolly scored his second goal with Arlo Stone on the assist, giving CCC a 2-1 advantage. Four minutes into the second half, CCC's Joseba Zabala made it a 3-1 score when he found the back of the net off the assist of Matheus Menegueli. Twelve minutes later, Conolly completed the hat trick when he scored a goal with Rodolfo Batisti assisting to boost the score to 4-1. Arteaga scored the Pronghorns' final goal in the 61st minute with Jose Martin Recalde assisting to make the score 4-2. CCC's Louie Mirza scored a goal in the 74th minute with Cheirry Barry on the assist, stretching the Raiders' lead to 5-2. Stone capped the scoring in the 82nd minute, scoring a goal off the assist of Steven Esquivel, giving CCC the 6-2 victory.

CCC goalie Drew Wagenblatt played 70 minutes in goal and recorded a pair of saves. Xavi Morales was in goal for 20 minutes.

With the win, the Raiders are 5-5-4 on the season heading into Wednesday's showdown with Southeast Community College. The Bobcats beat the Raiders, 4-2, last month in Beatrice. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Raider Field.
