Men’s Soccer: Hawks Fly Past Raiders

The Central Community College men's soccer team lost to Northeast Community College, 5-2, at Raider Field in a match that took four days to complete.

The contest began on Thursday and was suspended with about 39 minutes remaining due to inclement weather. In that span, Northeast built a 3-0 lead on the strength of two Jeevan Purewal goals. CCC made the score 3-1 before the game was halted as Ivan Lopez found the back of the net with Charlie Orsler on the assist.

When play resumed on Monday, Northeast's Alfie Pendlebury scored an unassisted goal to extend the Hawks' lead to 4-1. Twelve minutes later, Orsler scored Central's second goal off the assist of Abdul Juma to pull to with two, 4-2. The Hawks scored their final goal with five minutes remaining to make the final 5-2.

Northeast outshot Central, 25-9, and totaled six corner kicks compared to two by the Raiders. CCC goalie Rodolfo Ramirez faced 11 shots and made six saves.

"In this game, Northeast came out ready to play and we didn't," said CCC head coach Luis Pulido. "The two early goals in the first five minutes made it so we had to push numbers forward to get a goal. Unfortunately, this meant we left space for them to beat us on two counterattack goals in the second half. This is definitely a game that the team will learn from as we play other opponents."

The 1-1 Raiders will host Minnesota West Community College on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Raider Field.
