Men’s Soccer: CCC Overpowers Pratt

Ivan Lopez and Rafael Medrano each scored two goals apiece as the Raiders won 5-2 at Pratt (Kan.) Community College on Saturday.

Lopez opened the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute with Jesus Jiminez on the assist to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Medrano made it a 2-0 CCC lead with his first goal in the 26th minute with Marc Ackerman assisting. Pratt scored its first goal two minutes later, followed by Madrano's second goal in 32nd minute. Ismail Hassan provided the assist and CCC was in command at 3-1. Five minutes later, CCC's Dayethan Nelson found the back of the net with Chris Izaguirre on the on the assist to give the Raiders a 4-1 advantage. The Beavers scored their second goal in the 40th minutes to cut CCC's lead to 4-2, which held through halftime. The scoreboard remained quiet until the 54th minute when Lopez logged his second goal with Charlie Orsler on the assist to complete the 5-2 final.

CCC goalie Rodolfo Ramirez faced six shots on goal and recorded four saves.

"This game was interesting because it has some lows and highs," said CCC head coach Luis Pulido. "Fortunately, anytime we made a mistake and they scored, we were able to react and retain control of the game."

The win gives CCC a 9-6-2 record for the 2021 regular season.

Up next, the Raiders will host Allen County (Kan.) Community College in the Region 9 semi-finals on Thursday. The Raiders and the Red Devils split during the regular season with CCC taking the first contest, 3-0, at Raider Field on Sept. 18. Allen County returned the favor on Oct. 9, winning a 3-2 thriller in overtime in Kansas.

"Allen County will be a tough opponent for us," said Pulido. "Being able to play at home will definitely be an advantage."

Kickoff for Thursday's regional semi is set for 2 p.m. at Raider Field.
