Men’s Soccer: Cougars Leap Past Raiders

The Central Community College men's soccer team lost at Western Nebraska Community College, 6-2, on Saturday in Scottsbluff.

WNCC's Bernardo Torres scored the game's first goal in the 19th minute with Ramses Atahualpa providing the assist to take a 1-0 lead. Atahualpa assisted on the Cougars' next goal in the 39th minute as Hector Salgado booted in the score to extend the lead to 2-0, which was the halftime score.

Four minutes into the second half, Atahualpa scored his first goal of the game off the assist of Silvio Xavier and the lead increased to 3-0. Salgado notched his second goal of the game in the 63rd minute with Leo Palomo assisting and the Cougars were up 4-0. CCC's Peterson Costa broke up the WNCC scoring streak with a goal in the 67th minute with Riolan Moradillo Mel on the assist to cut the lead to 4-1. Five minutes later, Edgar Romero logged his first goal of the season on penalty kick for a 4-2 deficit. But that's as close as the Raiders would get as Xavier and Juan Garfio added two more goals as Western Nebraska won 6-2.

WNCC goalies combined for eight saves, while CCC netminder Kevin Toledo recorded three saves.

With the loss, the Raiders are now 5-5 on the season.

Up next, CCC will be back at Raider Soccer Field on Tuesday to host York JV. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
