Men's Soccer: Costa Comes Up Big for the Raiders

Freshman Peterson Costa scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute to lift the Central Community College men's soccer team over York JV, 2-1. Mid-fielder Vitor Lima provided the assist.

The contest was scoreless until the 30th minute when the Panthers got on the board with an unassisted goal to make it 1-0. The Raiders evened the score at 1-1 some twenty minutes later when Igor Mendes Pires found the back of the net off the assist of Gregorio Dos Prazeres. The score remained deadlocked until Costa booted the game-winner.

"We were not able to play our best game during the first half," said CCC head coach Dave Silva. "We were just too anxious to score and we left too many open spaces. During the second half, we settled down and we were able to control the pace of the game. We missed a few goal opportunities, but I was very pleased with the way we played."

CCC goalie Guilherme Balestra Demhougi played the first half and recorded three saves, while surrendering one goal. Jose Gonzalez minded the net in the second half and recorded a pair of saves. On the day, the Raiders outshot the Panthers, 17-4.

Up next, the 1-0 Raiders will play their home opener against Northeast Community College on Friday at 4 p.m. The game will be played at Wilderness Park, 4100 18th Ave., in Columbus.

The Hawks come to town on the heels of a 5-0 loss to Barton County Community College on Tuesday.
