Soccer: CCC Snaps Four-Game Slide

The Central Community College Soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory home over Hastings JV. With the win, the Raiders are now 2-7 on the season.

The Raiders scored both of their goals in the first half on a pair of back-to-back unassisted goals from Juan Alvarado and Jose Flores, respectively. Meanwhile, the CCC defense held the Broncos scoreless in the first half.

"We did a very good job of controlling the tempo of the game, especially during the first half," said CCC head coach Dave Silva. "Our defense did an excellent job. Hastings didn't take a shot at goal during the first half."

The Hastings offense came to life in the second half and Bruno Moreira put the Broncos on the board with a goal in the 62nd minute. The Raiders were able to clamp down and hold on for the one-goal victory.

"During the second half, we struggled a bit with possession in the early minutes, which allowed Hastings to score," said Silva. "Once we settled down, we controlled the game once again."

CCC will return to Region IX competition this Friday and Saturday with a pair of familiar foes. On Friday, Otero Junior College comes to Columbus, followed by Trinidad State Junior College on Saturday. The Otero Rattlers defeated the Raiders, 3-1, back on September 2, while the next day, the Trinidad Trojans shutout CCC, 9-0. Both games were played in Colorado. Game time on Friday is at 4 p.m., Saturday's kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
