COLUMBUS -- The Raiders surrendered goals early and couldn't rebound on an 0-2 weekend.

The Central Community College soccer team lost to Otero Junior College 1-0 Friday at Wilderness Park and lost to Trinidad State Junior College 3-1 Saturday at Wilderness Park.

"Defensively, we were plagued in both games by poor starts," Central head coach Jon Brezenski said. "Giving up goals in the first 10 minutes is unacceptable. We have to take more pride in being ready to go and guys have to be able to get themselves mentally and physically ready to play."

Otero took the 1-0 win with a goal in the fifth minute of play.

The Raiders had a few opportunities to neutralize the game, but came up short on all eight shots of the match.

"We missed three or four really good chances to score and the result could have been different," Brezenski said.

In Central's second game of the weekend, Trinidad State broke out a lead with a goal in the eighth minute of play Saturday.

This time, Central was able to knot the game up, when Rudy Escobar knocked in a goal during the 48th minute off a Daniel Maganda assist.

The tie didn't last long, however, as Trinidad State's Ricardo Zacarias capitalized in the 59th minute to put the Raiders in the hole again.

"They scored the go-ahead goal on an apparent offside," Brezenski said.

Trinidad State sealed the 3-1 win when Central scored an own goal in the 85th minute.

"Our struggles continue to be in our inability to finish quality chances," Brezenski said. "We have the right build up and are getting opportunities, but we struggle to find the net."

Central hosts Western Wyoming Community College Friday.

"If we can make the necessary changes, I firmly believe we can still be a dangerous team in our postseason," Brezenski said. "We will get back at it this week in preparation for a tough Western Wyoming team coming into town Friday."
