Men’s Basketball: NIACC Tournament Recap

The Central Community College men's basketball team lost both games at the Thanksgiving Basketball Challenge at North Iowa Area Community College. A recap of both games is below. CCC is now 8-5 on the season and will be back at Raider Fieldhouse on Tuesday night to host McCook Community College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Game 1 vs. Iowa Lakes Community College

The Lakers scored 57 points in both halves of a 114-75 win over the Raiders.

CCC's Nathan Frost posted his seventh double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Tre'vion Crawford scored 17 points and Wuor Wiyual scored 10 points.

"We didn't play much defense in the first half and we really let them get going," said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. "When we started competing in the second half, they were already in a rhythm. I have to credit them for shooting it well, but shooting 60 percent from the field had a lot to do with our lack of defensive intensity as well."

Game 2 vs. North Iowa Area Community College

The Raiders and the Trojans met for the second time in nine days and the result was the same. However, the final score was much closer as NIACC defeated CCC, 115-103.

CCC's Roman Behrens, Nathan Frost and Tre'vion Crawford accounted for 81 points. Behrens scored a game-high 32 points and dished out 10 assists, while Frost scored 30 points. Crawford rounded out the double-digit scoring with 19 points.

"I am really happy with how we competed against NIACC," said Ritzdorf. "Obviously, things need to improve on the defensive end of the floor, but I'm pleased with our effort and how hard we played.  NIACC is rated highly for a reason and we showed we can compete with the best teams."
