Men’s Basketball: Raiders Tame the Tigers

The Central Community College men's basketball team had a solid performance in an 88-68 win over Doane JV on Thursday night at the Haddix Center in Crete.

The Raiders outrebounded the Tigers, 45-29, and shot 62 percent from the floor. After leading 34-26 at halftime, CCC took off in the second half and scored 54 points. If there was a down side, the Raiders only connected on five three-point baskets while Doane logged 11 buckets from beyond the arc. Raiders head coach Jerry Drymon particularly noted his team's defense in limited the Tigers to 31 percent field goal shooting.

"We did a nice job defensively tonight," said Drymon. "We followed the game plan and we disrupted Doane's offense. When we moved the ball tonight, we got some excellent shots. This is a game we can build off of."

Four CCC players scored in double figures, with Jaxon Simons leading the way with 17 points. Marquis Dotson finished with 14 points, while Zack Rice-Gordon and Garrett Sittner each scored 12 points apiece.

The win gives the Raiders an overall mark of 9-11.

CCC is off until Wednesday, Jan. 31, when they travel to Norfolk to take on Northeast Community College. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
