Men’s Basketball: Iowa Lakes Needs OT to Beat CCC

The Central Community College men's basketball team suffered its second consecutive loss with a 99-93 overtime defeat at the hands of Iowa Lakes Community College in the second round of the Hawks Classic in Norfolk.

The Raiders had a solid first half as they built up a 51-42 advantage at halftime. But it was a different story in the second half as CCC got into foul trouble and the Lakers took control of the glass, eventually besting the Raiders in rebounding, 58-47. However, CCC still had a shot at the win as Garrett Sittner hit a three-point shot with seven seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. But, Iowa Lakes outscored the Raiders, 13-7, in the extra session to get the win.

Malik Mooving had another fine performance, finishing with 29 points. Jaxon Simons scored 19 points, while Sittner chipped in a dozen points. Bennett Nelson rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.

The loss gives the Raiders a 3-2 mark as they next play at Iowa Western Community College on Tuesday night. Tip-off at Kanesville Arena is set for 7 p.m.
