Esports: CCC Wins Another National Title

The Central Community College esports team won its second national championship this week. This time, the Call of Duty: Cold War Gunfight (2x2) team defeated Iowa Western Community College, 3-1.

The team consisted of Jackson Peabody (pictured left) and Ayden Veik (pictured right), who were part of the CCC's Call of Duty: 4x4 squad that won a national championship on Tuesday.

The Raiders got off to a strong start in the first two maps, besting the Reivers 6-3 and 6-5, respectively. Iowa Western bounced back in the third map with a 6-2 victory and took a 5-3 advantage in the fifth map. CCC posted a strong round win followed by a 1v2 win by Veik, which brought the Raiders back to an even 5-5 round score in the fourth map. A favorable weapon loadout in the 11th round of the map provided the necessary boost to win the map, 6-5, which secured the national title.

"This win meant a lot as Iowa Western bested us in the 2v2 national championship last spring," said CCC head coach Lucas Lumbra (pictured center). "We knew we were capable and it came down to execution and being ready for the moment. Clutch play by Ayden Veik took us over the top in the fourth map."

Peabody and Veik can complete a CCC national championship hat trick on Friday night when they take on Laramie County (Wyo.) Community College in Call of Duty: 2x2 Warzone. The match starts at 5 p.m. and can be seen on Twitch TV.
