The Central Community College women's soccer team defeated Western Iowa Tech, 1-2, on Tuesday afternoon.
This match started in a very even, defensive battle. Raiders were splitting ball control, but then with a little takeaway, Western Iowa Tech put a ball in the net to give them a 1-0 lead. In games like these, where it's a defensive stalemate, sometimes one goal is all that is needed to get the win.
This game, however, had a different game script. After an offensive push by the Raiders, Eagan Clark scored a nice goal, assisted by Lea Cordier to tie the match going into the half. This was big for the momentum of this game, to swing some back in Central's direction before the break.
The 2nd half was back to the defensive battle we had thought we were going to get. As the game time trickled down, the most likely result was going to be a 1-1 draw.
With only a couple of minutes left in the match, Lois Taylor breaks the tie with a goal assisted by Lea Cordier to send the Raiders up 2-1 and subsequently winning the match.
A quote from head coach Jamie Bennett, "This was not our best performance, but I am proud of our girls resolve and how they dealt with some adversity."
Raiders women's soccer moves to 3-0 on the season.
