Women’s Soccer: Sophomore Day Victory

The Central Community College women's soccer team closed out the 2023 regular season with a 3-1 win over Pratt (Kan.) Community College on Wednesday at Raider Field. Sophomores Lilli Reiser (pictured right), Elly Speicher (left) and Thalia Tenney (center) were honored before playing their final CCC home game.

Scoring in the first half was non-existent until right before halftime when Pratt's Rosina Mastro found the back of the net with Madeline Martinez on the assist for a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes into the second half, CCC's Abby Berger tied the game at 1-1 with a goal off the assist of Reiser In the 65th minute, moved ahead for good when Ellie Bates scored a goal with Jada Cohn assisting for a 2-1 lead. Ten minutes later, Francesa Wright scored her first goal of the season with Talia Gisonni on the assist to complete the 3-1 victory.

"This was a great way to send our sophomores out with a win," said CCC head coach Jamie Bennett. "The girls played hard and with smiles, which was great to see."

With the win, the Raiders are 6-8-1 heading into the playoffs. CCC will open the post-season with a venture to Johnson County (Kan.) Community College on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
