Women’s Soccer: Highland Holds Off CCC

The Central Community College women's soccer team lost at Highland (Kan.) Community College, 2-1, on Wednesday.

All three goals were scored in the first half with CCC's Hannah Beach kicking the first goal with Rylee Eschliman on the assist for a 1-0 lead. Highland's Lena Visarius tied the game, 1-1, with an unassisted goal in the 25th minute. Vasarius would score another unassisted goal in the 36th minute to put the Scotties up for good, 2-1. CCC netminder Nalie Crouse faced a dozen shots on goal and posted 10 saves.

"We played great for the first 15 minutes and could have been up 2-0 or 3-0," said CCC head coach Jamie Bennett. "All of a sudden, we stopped doing what was working and gave up a couple of goals on set pieces and were behind 2-1 going into half. In the second half, the girls played so well and fought with everything they had but we simply couldn't get the equalizer."

The Raiders have now lost seven in a row and have a record of 2-13.

CCC will close out the regular season on Saturday with a road venture to Pratt (Kan.) Community College. The Beavers beat the Raiders, 2-0, last Saturday. Kickoff for this Saturday's game is set for 3 p.m.
