Women’s Soccer: Sophomore Day Shocker

Highland Community College's Maxima Bellscheidt scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute, lifting the Scotties to a 3-2 win over the Raiders on Monday at Raider Field.

CCC put up quite a fight to tie the game, being down 2-0 with 25 minutes to play in regulation. It began when Sydney Weiler found the back of the net off an assist from Rylee Eschliman to make it a 2-1 deficity. CCC's Hannah Beach then scored a goal on a corner kick to tie the score at 2-2 before Bellscheidt booted the winning goal.

"We lost a heartbreaker on sophomore day," said CCC head coach Jamie Bennett. "The girls showed a lot of heart overcoming that two-goal deficit and although it wasn't the result we wanted, they played hard and left everything they had on the field."

CCC netminder Natalie Crouse faced a dozen shots on goal and made nine saves.

The Raiders have lost six straight and have a mark of 2-12.

CCC will face Highland again on Thursday in Kansas. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
